Chloe
is 8 years old. After a difficult pregnancy she was delivered by
elective caesarean section and was found to have a heart murmur.
Chloe had several hospital admissions and cardiac surgery for a
V.S.D. was successfully performed at 16 weeks of age.
She reached her milestones and was a very happy baby
up to the age of 16 months.
Her personality changed, her sunny smile vanished
and soon afterwards she was diagnosed with – Temporal Lobe Epilepsy.
Chloe made very little progress developmentally and the epilepsy
had an enormous impact on her speech and language skills and general
learning.
It was several years and several changes in medication
before her seizures decreased (but did not cease) and slow improvements
were made. However, Chloe remained poorly co-ordinated with severe
delay in receptive and expressive language. Her sleep pattern was
very poor and we were mentally and physically exhausted!!
Chloe spent 3 years in a language unit, where her
confidence improved, but she did not make the progress we had hoped
for. After much soul searching Chloe started G Therapy in August
1999.
The change in her sleep pattern was INSTANTANEOUS.
She slept through the night and has continued to do so ever since.
For this improvement alone we were DELIGHTED. NO medication has
ever done this (and the doctors had tried several).
Her expressive language has improved significantly,
so has her receptive language, but to a lesser degree.
Chloe now listens to conversations and uses language
appropriately (most of the time). It is worth noting that Chloe
has received no Speech Therapy since July 1999.
Her observational skills have also shown marked improvements.
Her immune system is excellent – she is rarely ill. (It is known
that illness is a trigger for seizures and we can only guess that
this improvement in her immune system may be contributing to the
total seizure control that we now have).
There have been small increases in medication as Chloe
has grown, but we believe G Therapy has helped in some way.
Unfortunately at this point we have seen little improvement
in Chloe’s learning ability, but remain optimistic for further improvements
in time.
We know there is no ‘cure’ for Chloe problems and
we have never been lead to believe that there is. What I can say
is that G Therapy has had a positive effect upon Chloe.
