Ayurveda and the philosophy of G Therapy

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

G Therapy has been inspired by the Ayurvedic principles of Sookshma Chikitcha.

The oldest Jain scriptures known as a AAGAMA also has described diseases and their treatment, about unicellular life and the strict rules to live a healthy life through diet and daily activities of living style, but the ultimate goal is directed towards Emancipation.

Diseases and their management appears to be as old as the existence of mankind on this earth.

In India, the medical system could develop in the form of a well developed science named as AYURVEDA somewhere before 5000 B.C. The scriptures of anthroposophy known as VEDA described certain diseases and their management through dietic regimens and medicinal recipes. Around 1500 B.C. the science of AYURVEDA advanced systematically and was divided in 8 main clinical branches.

The word Ayurveda is made up of two basic terms viz. AYU and VEDA wherein AYU stands for life and VEDA means science or knowledge. Thus AYURVEDA means ‘ the science of life ’. Ayurveda has also described principals in details to live a healthy life for all ages and is called ‘SWASTAVRUTTA’.

Nothing is new in this nature. It is just a transformation of one energy into another. When a disease condition is generated a solution for that condition is also simultaneously created or available in the nature and so if we carefully explore the nature, remedies for so called incurable conditions can be found out.

Ayurveda says there is not a single substance in this Universe which has no medicinal value.

------------------------------------------------------

A Vaidya (Doctor - as is conventionally called in Ayurveda) has to use his intelligence and keep on preparing newer combinations of remedies - "KALPA" to bring a state of health in patients or sufferers.

Ayurveda says a substance works in the body by its properties – "GUNA". The medicinal properties of a substance can be increased by subjecting it to various treatments – "SANSKAR".

------------------------------------------------------

Due to SANSKAR medicinal properties – "GUNA" can be increased or decreased. Sometimes it can also alter the site of action of this substances inside the body.

------ Reference Page- 13 Dr. Vilas Dole (M.D.Ayurveda ) et al Book of Bhaishajya Kalpana.

And the more the SANSKAR it will act in the body in a very minute quantity, and so less are the chances of any side effects. A stage comes when if you chemically analyse the medicine you may not find any chemical or the original substance but still it is effective, showing its positive action when given. At this stage only the properties – "GUNAS" remain i.e. only the energy remains which acts. This is the basic principle of SUKSHMA CHIKISTSA.

------------------------------------------------------

A medicine is called Sookshma when it goes deep inside body or because of its most finest size it enters the smallest srotasas.

------------------------------------------------------

Sukhshma means minute quantity and minute size and being so it can be absorbed into the SROTAS faster.

------------------------------------------------------

SROTAS are channels of circulation or tracts within the body. They are named so because of their tendency to trickling or oozing (‘sru’ – to flow ) of secretions through them (neurotransmitters in this case). They are the pathways for the nutrient products; waster products and doshas (Vayu Dosha here can be compared with neuronal impulse) during the process of metabolism. SROTAS enable their products to reach their destination. They transport the ‘DHATUS' which are undergoing transformation. They are physical structures and specific in their functions. While the basic sites of srotas with different functions are fixed, their openings are innumerable, (can be compared to connection of neurons at synapses.)

The variation of any of these SROTAS is manifested by exaggeration or inhibition of normal functions.

------------------------------------------------------

Vyavayi

A medicine is called VYAVAYI, when a medicine before being assimilated in G.I tract, gets circulated in complete body and then it is digested. Because of Vyavayi Guna a medicine is absorbed instantaneously and it goes to the most minute srotas or channels immediately and it acts immediately.

------------------------------------------------------

Aashukari

Due to property of AASHUKARI after administration of the medicine it spreads in whole body immediately and acts quickly.

Basic Principles of Pharmacology in Ayurveda
When two medicinal substances having similar Gunas (properties) are combined together, it increases their potential (Synergism).
Medicine should be given in such a manner that it will be pleasant to mind.
A medicine is ideal if it can be given in many ways & having many Gunas (properties).

An ideal medicine should have following properties:

  • a) It can be given in low dose.
  • b) Having immediate action
  • c) Acting on various pathologies (Doshas)
  • d) Easily assimilable
  • e) Tasty
  • f) Pleasant
  • g) And will cure –the disease or pathology.
