Case No 12: Epilepsy with Sensory-Motor Neuropathy.

Rajneesh reported here with chief complaints of epilepsy with inability to walk effectively with slightly unclear speech with decreased sensation in lower limbs.

His birth history was reportedly normal ; though his early developmental milestones were achieved marginally late; There was history of scholastic backwardness since early school going age and finally discontinued studies after 8th standard.

Difficulty in walking has started since last 4-5 years only. There was history convulsions since 12th years of age with last epileptic attack in May 2000; was on ayurvedic medicines for his seizure.

On investigation his EEG (19-1-2001) was suggestive of excess bilateral slow activity indicating diffuse cortical dysfunction. His NCV study at the same time was suggestive of sensory motor neuropathy.

On examination normal tone was found in all the 4 limbs with broad-based ataxic gait with dragging of both lower limbs ( left more than right ) on walking; No jumping and running was possible with inability to manage stairs with out support. He was independent in all his activities of daily living though slow in speed; He was unable to hold sleepers while walking. His speech was mildly slurred.

Improvements noted with 1 year of G – Therapy :

  1. Sensation in lower limbs are intact now.
  2. Speech has become more clearer now.
  3. No improvement in gait was noticed.
  4. Reduction of stiffness in lower limbs now.
  5. Can walk with sleepers up to limited distance now.
